Viscerosomatic  Relationships -

Diagnosis and Treatment

Osteopathic manipulative medicine is an approach that uses the understanding of the body's physiology and nervous sytem to help not only the problems with the musculoskeletal system, but of the organ and/or lubricating cells in the mucous membranes also.  Some of these relationships are linked to a disturbance in the fight-or-flight responses (sympathetic nervous sytem).  The organs including the screting cells in the mucous membranes have nerve supply from both the sympathetic nervous system and the "vegetative" or parasympathetic nervous system.  Both of these arms of the nervous system affect the function of the organs.  Treatment of these reflexes can therefore help the function of the organs.  Patients at this office have received relief from the following long-standing problems:

-  Chronic Sinusitis

-  Persistent problems following hysterectomy

-  Urinary incontinence

-  Racing heart or palpitations

-  Reflux esopahagitis or heartburn

-  Chronic constipation, diarrhea or irritable bowel syndrome

-  Anxiety and insomnia
